Happy summer! The summer solstice was this past week on June 21 so what a better time to share some of my summer beauty essentials I’ve been loving. Makeup is one of my favorite hobbies and I would even say I have quite the collection. I’m no beauty guru or blogger, but it’s always fun for me to share new finds and favorites.
It’s a little bittersweet to think about the solstice already passing us because from here on out, the days only get shorter. So if you haven’t made summer vacation plans yet or made it out to the cabin, be sure you add it your calendars ASAP.
I go through periods where I buy a lot of new makeup at once and find new products to love, and that’s what happened over the past few weeks. I found myself at Ulta looking for a new palette before an event a few weeks ago then of course I had to get new lip colors for the warmer months (or at least that’s what I tell myself).
So sick back, enjoy and do some shopping!
My Summer Beauty Essentials
I am declaring this the palette for summer. Even after summer I can see the colors in it playing nicely in the fall, but let’s not even talk about that season yet. I picked this up a few weeks ago when I was looking for more pink-toned eye shadows. I was a little hesitant to grab this at first because I’m not a huge fan of the Lorac Pro eye shadow formula, but these are complete different in my opinion. The formula in the Pro palette is very soft and powdery, while the Unzipped palette’s shadows are smooth and buttery. I have almost no fall out with them and can get a variety of looks.
When I bought this palette, I was also thinking of something that would be easy for work looks and that could travel well this summer. The only thing missing from this palette is a black, which I can workaround when traveling with a black eyeliner or single shadow.
I just picked up this foundation in June, but I’ve owned it before and I remember loving then and I still do. I need an in between spring and summer shade, plus something to keep me more matte than what I was using. The shade match is nearly perfect (it oxidizes a bit after application which I already knew when I bought it), there’s a pump for easier application, and it’s drugstore so the price is just right.
As I’m writing this blog post, come to find out that this specific color is no longer available; I didn’t even realize it was limited edition when I bought it. Colourpop is one of those brands that always has new products coming out, so there’s always something new to try.
But now that it’s summer I needed a refresh of my lip products for work and for some upcoming travels. I struck a deal and placed an order for a few lippies and lip sets for only $52 (including shipping). All in all, I got 11 new lip products and I’m enjoying all of them. One of the sets was this New Theory bundle with six of their Lippie Stix, including the coral color Sike. This is the perfect coral for my skin color, a color I’ve always struggle to find for medium skin color. And coral is perfect for summer!
I also ordered a few of their Ultra Satin Lips from the Deam Team Collection which look like the a liquid lipstick, but are much more comfortable on the lips. They color last a good amount of time, even through snacking and drinking. Probably wouldn’t last through any anything too greasy, but I’d rather reapply than have dry lips.
I can’t go a day of the year, let alone a day in summer, without this setting spray. If you have issues getting your makeup to last during the summer heat and you haven’t tried this product, I highly recommend giving it a try. I top this over my makeup in the morning before heading to work and it stays put through a hefty evening workout. If you have oily skin I recommend checking out the Deslick formula
I have very curly hair needs to be treated gingerly otherwise it will frizz easily. I usually refresh my hair will water mixed with a drop of conditioner (using this awesome spray bottle) and my Aussie Instant Freeze gel – it’s simple and it works. When summer comes around I need all the help I can get with refreshing my curls and keep my hair moisturized. This refresher spray came in handy when I recently went to a friend’s cabin for the weekend and it’s also perfect for my gym bag. I
Back in early spring, I went searching for a new light-weight moisturizer with SPF. In the past, I’ve had great experiences with Paula’s Choice products and this is no exception. The product itself has a light tint to it which I’m guessing is to combat the usual white-cast that some moisturizers with SPF can leave on your skin. There’s no scent that I can detect and it blends easily into the skin. I can also travel with this product since it’s under 3 ounces and is in squeezy tube making it more compact.
