February has come to a close and honestly I’m pretty happy about that. Even though February is the shortest month of the year, it kept me busy and stretched more than thin that I like to be. Because I was busy my list of favorites is on the shorter side, but what I have been loving are a part of my normal routine so they’re worth sharing.
I spent the latter half of the month too fixated on my macros, so I took a few steps back to focus on what I truly want in regards to my fitness and nutrition. In March, I want to be at ease with my nutrition while focusing more on my training. I made a blog post about how I’m getting back on track with everything and you can check that out here.
Now onto the favorites!
February Favorites 2017
PEScience Select Protein Snickerdoodle
After hearing all of the hype on social media about this protein powder I finally purchased it. I decided it was worth the try during my cut in January because it has only one carb. Honestly, the flavor and baking performance of this protein powder is living up to the hype and I’ve already repurchased a tub. This powder definitely cooks up a better waffle than I had been getting from my other protein powders and I make the waffle at least two times per week. I also find that this protein powder is much finer, mixes into foods easier and also bakes significantly better.
I’m definitely still using the Optimum Nutrition Vanilla Ice Cream because I’d like to do more research on the whey + casein blend and if it’s worth the price tag before switching over to the brand all together. Also, PEScience isn’t the only brand to offer a whey + casein protein powder blend. Quest Nutrition offers a variety of whey + casein blend options that I’d also like to try to make a fair comparison.
Kodiak Cakes Power Cakes
Honestly, I purchased this pancake mix because I wanted to make homemade donuts. Success! I made this donut recipe that I found on Pinterest and they definitely turned out good, but I’m hoping to perfect my own recipe to share here. Not only is this pancake mix perfect for donuts, but it also makes some killer pancakes (as it should). I’m used to making my protein pancakes with cottage cheese, oats, and protein powder – less than exciting compared to classic diner style pancakes. These totally make up for that with 14 grams of protein per serving though I do have to sacrifice 30 grams of carb so I’ve been having my Kodiak protein pancakes as a post workout meal.
Egg White Frittata Muffins
I shared this recipe a few weeks ago so I won’t spend too much time on it. Long story short, during the month of February I found Simply Mander’s on YouTube and one of the first videos I watched from her included this recipe in her weekly meal prep. I immediately made it the same day and I’ve been loving it ever since. I make this recipe on Sundays and get three breakfasts for my work week since one serving is four frittatas.
Not Your Mother’s Naturals Curl Defining Conditioner
I recently shared my Favorite Products for Curly Hair and included with those product is my favorite DevaCurl Decadence Conditioner. The DevaCurl conditioner runs $44 a liter and even though it’s my holy grail conditioner, I still like to try new products geared towards curly as they’re released to see how they compare.
A few months ago, Not Your Mother’s released a line of natural products (though I’m going to use that term loosely) including a line geared towards curly hair. I tried the Tahitian Gardenia Flower & Mango Butter Curl Defining Conditioner after hearing good things online about it and I love it. It smells amazing, and performs just similar to the DevaCurl. I’ve also been mixing it in with water to use as a curl refresher. I’m happy I found a less expensive conditioner that I can keep my shower for the weekend and traveling that also makes my curls look amazing! I recommend it if you’re in the market for a new conditioner and the DevaCurl is a little out of your price range.
